Gymboree Policy on Conflict Minerals
Gymboree Group, Inc. (“Gymboree”) is committed to ensuring that any metals or other minerals contained in our branded products are obtained, produced and used in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. Gymboree is committed to fully complying with section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act relating to trade in conflict minerals.
The conflict-minerals law is intended to address the situation in the mining industry in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and neighboring countries in Africa where warlords, controlling local mines, engage in deplorable human-rights abuses and use mining proceeds to fund regional conflicts. The law calls upon companies to provide information to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) whether the subject minerals – cassiterite, columbite-tantalite, gold, and wolframite – that are necessary to the functionality or production of products they manufacture or contract to manufacture originate from conflict mines in the DRC or neighboring countries.
Gymboree is committed to responsible sourcing practices and expects its vendors to share this commitment. Gymboree requires its factories to cooperate with Gymboree in its compliance with the conflict minerals law. Gymboree is following a framework developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and endorsed by the U.S. Department of State to incorporate proper due diligence measures into its supply chain regarding trade in conflict minerals.
Given the complexity of the supply chain, Gymboree recognizes that in order to successfully implement this framework we require the full cooperation of our factories. Accordingly, Gymboree is proactively working with its factories so that Gymboree can have greater confidence that its branded products are not produced in a way that harms communities, workers, or the environment. Gymboree also encourages its factories to support legitimate, conflict-free trade and to not include conflict minerals in our finished products. Gymboree takes its responsibilities under the conflict minerals law very seriously and is working to ensure full compliance.
